Can we have the events published out through RSS?

Better display for SNMP Objects that are interfaced
Similar to how ethernet interfaces each get their own line in the "OS" tab, it would be nice if you could create your own Tab that shows devices that are indexed.

For example, in my network I monitor Wireless Base Stations. There is a central node (BSC) that contains SNMP MIB information for all individuals base stations (BTS's.) So in order to query a BTS, I actually have to 'walk' the BSC. The BSC MIB is indexed per BTS; similar to how a server MIB is indexed per ethernet interface

It would be great in many instances (other than mine) where if you had a indexed groups of things, you could display it easily much like an ethernet interface, a file system, etc. I have seen many posts on the forum asking how to do this, and so far it seems only possible through source editing.

RE: Better display for SNMP Objects that are interfaced
#1!!! - Add typing of Interfaces using their names in InterfaceMap (see: http://dev.zenoss.org/trac/ticket/2979).

#2 - Layer 2 Mapping and dependencies.

#3 - More powerful reporting (should be able to create completely custom reports including data from multiple different components (interfaces, devices, performance templates, etc...) -- Should also be able to configure emailing of reports (schedule) right from the UI.

#4 - Performance enhancement of the overall system, currently eats up a lot of memory (especially when you start monitoring hundreds of devices). Processing isn't really an issue since it's expected that it'll use 100% of the CPU power (or close to) at each polling cycle. Since Zenoss is largely Python based, you may want to keep your eye on this: http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/03/27/1934256&from=rss

Those are really my main near show stopping issues at the moment (well, besides the reporting which is more of a nice to have).

RE: Better display for SNMP Objects that are interfaced
As a Solaris dude, I'm always going to push for the following:

1. Better Solaris integration.
2. Improved detection of Solaris Zones/Logical Domains.
3. Log File Monitor to allow detection of error and warning states based on defined input.
4. Stronger Enterprise Reporting

Unfortunately, I don't use this product where I work, but I'm very interested in it as I see alot to like about it. Unfortunately, at the moment, Solaris + SSH is a bit weak (and I know it's scheduled to improve) and also the Reporting needs a bit more work (from a managers point of view, and not a sysadmin).

Cheers,
andrew

A simple one:
The device icon on the device status page would be nice

RE: Better display for SNMP Objects that are interfaced
- easer managing of device dependencies through the web interface
http://dev.zenoss.org/trac/ticket/4579

- native LDAP support (or a solution for FreeBSD installation. I tried to set it up, but with no luck) sad

- It will be great if i can manage (or see a list of scheduled commands) queue of commands on the zencommand daemon.

- easer solution of monitoring huge list of web-sites (each has own IP/PORT) under 1 device (real web server).

RE: Better display for SNMP Objects that are interfaced
#1 an easy way to do dependencies.
#2 xen monitoring
#3 ha monitoring

then it would be close to perfect wink

RE: OpenVZ
You should be able to transform an event, then create a completely separate mapping and have it process that mapping as well, so that you don't run in to this whole scenario where only 1 mapping runs. This would make the event management system much easier to customize and much more powerful.

What do you want in King Crab?
I think they're already doing this in 2.4 betas? Or I saw it mentioned
somewhere. I would think this could lead to issues with
a) potentially much greater processing time needed to finish each event
b) potential loops...

I like it otherwise.

1) L2 Mapping & Dependencies

2) WMI HW tab informant and OS process monitoring framework... I realize it is a huge selling point for the enterprise version, but for those of us who only need to monitor less than 25 devices it would be nice to have some idea of how this is implemented in the enterprise version.

For 2 - don't you get that via SNMP already? I suppose if you really
wanted to get them via WMI you could see (for instance) Jane Curry's
Process Monitoring paper, write up the commands via wmic and use a bunch
of event commands (which is what I think Zenoss already does in the
background for WMI polls). There was also a recent thread on dumping
info into the GUI like you want.
