I'm new to setting up Zenoss (3.2.1 on Linux) and I'm trying to configure it to monitor a few sites by http only. I did get one site to work briefly, but broke it somehow trying to set up the second site. Can anyone tell me how to see the monitor attempts in the logs. I found this for ping attempts (zenping.log), but haven't found any logging for httpmonitor attempts. Without that, it's impossible for me to see that the site is being actively monitored. According to the firewall, Zenoss isn't polling the page. Any suggestions for troubleshooting why Zenoss isn't polling?
I think you should find evidence in zencommand.log. If necessary, turn up the logging level to Debug. You can do this from ADVANCED -> Settings -> Daemons, select the zencommand daemon and then the edit link.
Given that the http monitor is fundamentally run by zencommand (it runs the Nagios plugin under-the-covers on the Zenoss server), do you have the Command security credentials setup for your Zenoss server???? You will need a userid and password that works, in this case, from the Zenoss server, to the Zenoss server. So , for the Zenoss box, bring up Configuration Properties and fill in the zCommand User and zCommandPassword - you could also use keys if you would prefer in which case you need to fill in the file that the keys are held.
Check these credentials with an ssh test. This also ensures that the host key is setup before you have Zenoss calling the mechanism for you from zencommand.
