I have just upgraded to 3.0 and from what I can tell the upgrade went well. However, I'm unable to expand the Systems and Locations trees in the Infrastructure tab.
If I try to add a location, Zenoss seems to work fine and let's me enter the location details but after adding it I'm unable to see it.
Am I doing something wrong? Have I missed something in the upgrade?
try what Ian suggest's in this post: http://community.zenoss.org/thread/14043?tstart=0
zencatalog run --createcatalog --forceindex
This has worked for some.
Thanks for answering.
There seems to be something wrong with my install. zencatalog.py, and many other scripts in the ZenUtils directory, are not executable. Nor are they in the zenoss users path. Should they be?
Same problem for me... There is no zencatalog in /zenoss/bin. Odd.. considering I used it before the upgrade.
I assume this is why Device Classes are messed up.. But how to fix?
Thanks for answering.
It's actually good to see someone else with the same problem :-)
I still havent managed to resolve the issue. My installation is Zenoss-stack on CentOS.
How did you recreate the zencatalog command? What is it supposed to do?
Well...I believe it builds an index of your devices but it doesn't seem to help "Device Classes (0)....
As your problem seems exactly as mine, reindex likely won't help, but here is how I remade the missing zencatalog...
Look at $ZENHOME/bin/zenpack. This is your example. Copy $ZENHOME/bin/zenpack to $ZENHOME/bin/zencatalog. Then edit $ZENHOME/bin/zencatalog to point to zencatalog.py, instead of zenpack.py.
Thanks for showing me how to create the zencatalog file.
Unfortunately, you were right in suspecting that it would not fix my problem.
I'm unsure where to go from here. I can always reinstall 2.5 and load my backup, but I really don't want to do that.
It would be great if someone from Zenoss would take a look at these posts. There is obviously a bug in 3.0/3.0.1 or its installation that causes the Device classes and/or index thereof to be messed up.
These posts represent users who have Devices and/or Devices Classes that are missing in the UI. In most cases, the user shows "Device Classes (0)". These Devices and Device Classes still exist and are being monitored and alerted, but are missing in navigation and as such cannot be managed. According to zencatalog.log, these devices and classes are indexed and zencatalog "marks the database index complete".
Your attention would be appreciated. Given that there are 3 posts, I would assume this issue is actually affecting a larger number of users.
Have you created a bug report on this?
