October 29 update

As you're probably aware by now...Zenoss 2.5 is Now Available! I've been busy getting the word out and dealing with 2.5 upgrade issues dealt with and addressed (WMI Data Source is being fixed). On the site we updated a number of Core ZenPacks (Zenoss 2.5 ZenPacks updated) and updated the ZenPack page to include Enterprise ZenPack descriptions (ZenPacks). We added a new zenoss-cloud forum to go with the new Zenoss in the Clouds ZenPack Contest and Amazon Web Services ZenPack.

October 25 Community Recap

Last week we had a post-mortem with Jive regarding the launch of our new site. All in all we're fairly happy with the new site, Jive has responded well to issues we've had and most users seem to be enjoying the site. Still things that need to be fixed, but it's always a work in progress. As always, let me know if there's something we can improve.

Finally got a few ZenPacks uploaded

A few site issues updated

Zenoss 2.4 API has been updated, there was an issue with uploaded .tar.gz files being corrupted
The Zenoss Training Materials are now posted under Official Documentation
The old forum posts were re-migrated and the content updated, followup on the New Site Issues Thread
ZenPacks is now open to editing by registered users, attachements are reserved to authors
Discussions are now available under Porting & Platforms

spent the weekend at Ohio LinuxFest

started spreading the word about Zenoss Community Day - Baltimore, MD - November 6th
posted theTraining Materials from Community Day at OLF
built from source on Debian and Ubuntu
working with FreeBSD users to fix source builds<br/>
restoring code content to old posts is being tested, looks like it should be fixed soon
presented a Getting Started webinar, next one is Oct 13
added disclaimer to the ZenPacks page: Downloaded ZenPacks must be unzipped

Report from the last few days

Fixed an issue with HP ProCurve Switches , let me know if you have anymore issues with uploaded ZenPacks. It appears that the website is zipping uploaded ZenPacks, so you'll need to unzip them before trying to install them.
Zenoss 2.4 API uploaded and referenced. We'll have this up on the site for browsing soon.

ENCORE Zenoss Community Webinar Series: Zenoss Event Architecture
This Sev 1 against 2.4.5 from the thread Zenoss 2.4.5 Events (no thres.)are cleared though not solved got backported from 2.5
Got a new feature added for 2.5, will announce it hopefully with the next beta drop (but possibly the next one).
Changed offices
Upgraded my laptop

Added the Poll to the front page, so the Event Console Poll would get some more attention
(more details here: New Event Console Default Settings)
Avatar uploads are now supported (not just from the Profile Picture)
Handed out another http://dev.zenoss.org/ Trac account
http://search.zenoss.com was updated to crawl Zenoss.Org as well (it's slowly updating)
Created a Community Documentors Group
Attempted to explain the rational for Groups and Communities in our site: Community Documentation Group?

Continued the fight against spam
Monitored progress on fixing code blocks in old forum posts

Highlights from today include:

Hosting the Zenoss Community Webinar Series: Zenoss Event Architecture. Excellent turnout and a great presentation from Jane Curry, an encore session is being planned for next Tuesday.
Scheduled Zenoss IRC session Thursday September 25 at 11am EDT
Posted the Zenoss 2.5 Beta 2 update
Bumped the PM count limit from 100 to 300 (I guess people have a lot to say)
Added Abuse notifications for inappropriate content.
Deleted a lot of spam.
Discussed why we choose Jive instead of an Open Source solution: It's finally here
Handed out a new http://dev.zenoss.org Trac account (just ask!)
and the ZenPacks backlog got up to 10, so I'm going to need to get them posted!

Google and the old forum posts

Unfortunately we were unable to redirect every URL from the previous phpBB forums and people searching for things in Google and coming across threads that refer to other threads are coming up empty. Here's a proposed work-around:

1) Given a URL like http://forums.zenoss.com/viewtopic.php?t=7906, paste it into Google.

2) Google will give you a stale link, but the title of the thread will be there.

3) Copy everything after "Forums :: View topic" and paste it into the search bar at the top-right.

4) The relocated forum post will be found.

5) Feel free to post to the thread referencing the stale thread the new location.
