Extend the core Zenoss

Hello, I am a new user.

I would like to create my own NMS, starting from something already developed and open source.

I did some research and I have restricted my choice to two open source projects including Zenoss.

Can I use Zenoss to create my NMS?

If I can use it, what Zenoss can be integrated with other basic functionality? That is, there are APIs can write code directly into the core of Zenoss?

For example I take only the core of Zenoss and create my own UI? Create my alert management?

I thank as of now the answers and the availability of each of you.

Zenoss is built on Zope, so if your so inclined you should be able to use or discard any pieces you want at your discretion. That said it won't be a trivial undertaking.

It is possible to extend Zenoss with ZenPacks, which can make Zenoss into your own custom NMS. This adds new capabilities to Zenoss. This is probably the best way to go, rather than building your own. The architecture for an NMS is fairly complex, and we are redesigning the core parts of our product to scale better and better with every release.
