Currently our alerts are working great! Threshold violations are accurate and reporting correctly and the e-mail distribution is working properly. There is one addition that I have been trying to make that Zenoss does NOT do out of the box. When Zenoss sends a notification on an alert, Interface utilization/CPU/Memory/etc., there is generally a graph that gives a visaul representation of the violation. Currently in order to view this graph we have to login to Zenoss.
Ideally a notification would be the following:
Time: 2012/06/15 06:33:45.000
threshold of high utilization exceeded: current value 9417519.510000
Has anyone found an easy way to do this or can point me in the right direction to do this?
I have not done this, but I would be very interested in seeing it implemented as well. Having the graph in the email would certainly be nice.
From the little bit I know about the alert stuff there is a default template I've seen mentioned in other threads, It might be possible with some code to modify that, but I suspect it will be non trivial. Hopefully someone that knows more about this has some insight.
