iam trying to set a static ip on a Zenoss Core 3.1.0 VM, but every command i have been googled have failed:
"nano /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0" (-bash: nano: command not found)
"/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0" (-bash: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0: Permission denied)?
thank you for any info on this.
This question is not really revelant to Zenoss. If you google for how to set a static IP on CentOS Linux, it should dig up what you need. If your first error indicates that nano is not installed on the appliance, us vim instead.
The second error leades me to believe you're running the command as some user other than root? In either case, google how to set a static IP on Centos and you should find the information you need. The VM Appliance is nothing more than a Centos 5x Linux install with Zenoss installed.
thanks man, i found out in the end where to look,"vim ifcfg-eth0" - but now that iam setting up the static i wonder, where and how to setup dns 1,2 ? ive got to setup;
ip : 10.0.1.0
yup tried that, this is what it said:
;generated by /sbin/dhcclient-script
name server 10.0.1.10
name server 10.0.2.1
i dont think this is the right config, this looks like somthing from dhcp, but the address are right.
i can only ping 10.0.1.10 but not the 10.0.2.1 so think there is somwher else i neeed to save these nameserver`s
I just tried to set it to dhcp and then i can ping the 10.0.2.1, so when i try static ip - there is something missing - but when i try dhcp it works- ??
ok, now i finally figured it out, this is what i mean - when you stare at a problem for a time you only see the problem - not the solution.
So i had configured the "ifcfg-eth0"
BOOTPROTO=none ---(this is actually static)
but i forgot the gateway - doh!
now it works! with static ip!
