IPv6 Support

Hi Zenoss Core Developer Community,

I support a government agency that supports strategic Enterprise Network Management programs. Last month we invited Vint Cerf, Ph.D to speak about IPv6. As you probably know, Dr. Cerf is a VP @ Google and widely known as one of the "Fathers of the Internet." The first sentence that he spoke addressed the lack of Network Management tools that have support for IPv6. This caught the attention of my customer.

With a team of others, we've been tasked to recommend an open source network management tool to the customer. We're looking at a list of criteria. We are really impressed with Zenoss (saw demonstration at the IT Roadmap conference and expo in Wash DC last moth). It would be great to indicate on the survery that Zenoss Core would soon have IPv6 support. Right now we've only seen where the Open Source Zabbix tool reports supporting both IPv4 and IPv6.

Appreciate to hear your thoughts and comments. Thx Nancy

I know this was responded to off-list, but I thought I'd post it here
for everyone else. Zenoss does not currently support IPv6. This is
something under consideration for a future release.

    Thanks,

    Re:   IPv6 Support
Even if Zenoss is not going to support IPv6 network transport soon, it needs some updates right away to handle the behavior of dual-stack systems. For example, on my dual-stack Linux systems, zenmodeler does not pick up ssh because the dual-stack listener address shows up as an ipv6 address which IpServiceMap doesn't pick up. I tried IpV6ServiceMap but that didn't seem to work.

I'm planning to open a separate thread and/or ticket about this problem, but I wanted to bring it up here.

We have a team engaging in making zenoss support IPv6 Devices or Servers. I'm a teacher in china, and I am operating a part of CERNET2 which is the biggest IPv6 network in the world. Now, we have implemented some functions about IPv6 in zenoss. Soon, we will share our achievement with everyone :)

    +1

I hope y'all are thinking about the fundamental model/etc changes that need to happen to support ipv6 when, in a couple of years, the ISPs run out of v4 allocations to hand out.

    Re: IPv6 Support

Is it still the case that Zenoss does not have IPv6 support?  If it doesn't currently, is there a commitment to support it and if so by when (roughly)?

    Re: IPv6 Support

would be cool to have it, i would guess it would first arrive as some zenpack.

a workaround today if you set up a small cisco router or choose one particular on to the IPV6 networks you want to monitor then set up IP SLA for monitoring and tracking from it.  and it could also send traps and syslog to your zenoss etc

    Re: IPv6 Support

IPv6 support is a feature of Zenoss 4.0 and is baked in.  Currently supported protocols are SNMP, ICMP, telnet and SSH.
