I'm looking at switching my monitoring platform and Zenoss ticks all the boxes I need for functionality but I want to run the web server on a separate server to the one running Zope (and the core Zenoss install) but couldn't find any articles or threads that talk about this. Is this type of installation possible and if so are there any instructions for it?
Many thanks in advance
I dont know but I am just wondering why?
If its performance you may want to look at running the mysql events database on another server for a better bang for your buck
It's actually because I'm going to be running Zenoss on the Amazon VPC with a physical vpn device to attach at my end in the networking facility with the elements I'm looking to monitor. With the Amazon VPC config there is a public and private subnet into which servers (the ones running zenoss) are deployed. Only the Public subnet can get internet connectivity and this is where Apache will be deployed. The Zope server and db get deployed into the private subnet that has the vpn connectivity to the network elements being monitored. There is only a handful of ports opened between the private and public subnets for the webserver to get info/pages from zope.
It's a pretty secure and very scalable architecture...I'm hoping that it is possible to have apache and zope running on entirely separate servers and that someone is able to either confirm this or give details of how to do it fairly quickly.
That sounds pretty cool
Hope you get it worked out, would love to read some docs on how its done
