Just did a zenoss install in Ubuntu. I added:
deb http://dev.zenoss.org/deb main stable
to my /etc/apt/sources.list file
when I did 'sudo apt-get install zenoss-stack' it installed version 3.0
I was under the impression 2.5.2 was latest stable rev and 3.0 was in beta, and I wrong or is something screwed up?
I saw that this morning too and got all excited. Experience has taught me, especially in my case, that it's wise to wait a few weeks for bugs to be ironed out before upgrading. I've got a rather stable implementation and I'm going to wait for early adopters to go ahead of me.
I googled it and saw an announcement from June. I found all my zenpacks I use had been updated to be 3.0 compatible. First post I saw today was about someone doing an upgrade. I'm close to having to switch to another product if I can't get somewhere with layer 2 dependancies, so I figured I would go ahead and give the latest a shot.
Well I'm glad 3.0 is available since LDAP integration is 10x easier to do. However I'll pop the bubbly only after some more testing.
I've been running 3.0 in the lab without issue but this 3.0 surprise install that just happened is on a production system that I installed remotely, I now have to make the call as to whether or not I jump to 3.0 on my production systems or stick to 2.5.2. If 3.0 is truly ready for prime time, that is fine but if it was pushed out the door a little too early I could get burned.
I also have some other questions, I read somewhere that the ZenPop and ZenMail feature (to transmit events over email) was buggy in 2.5.2 and that it was going to be much more stable under 2.5.3. What happens to that feature upgrade in 3.0, has it been fixed, its the next thing I need to implement in my zenoss workflow. Maybe some Zenoss tech heads can answer that one.
The part of the instructions that didn't seem to work for me was the recompiling the 2 modules with python 2.4
Now since 3.0 uses python 2.6, that step is not necessary and I got LDAP working very quickly.
That is using the latest versions of LDAPUserfolder and the other plugin.
We had a limited number of patches in trunk that we had identified as appropriate for a potential 2.5.3 release. Thankfully, 2.5.3 was not necessary. All items under consideration for 2.5.3 are part of 3.0.0
Could you perhaps post a guide in the wiki section explaining exactly what you did to setup LDAP support in 3.0? It still has quite a few of us scratching our heads, and it's probably something simple that we're overlooking. We can't get the plugins to show up in the list.
Dear Mr. Matte,
Sorry, I did not try to use the LDAP plugin with 3.0.
Actually, I've downgraded to 2.5x, because of several problems with plugins
(and with things that broke on my integrations with 3.0).
But according to other user's feedback (whose said that's 10x easier to do
it with 3.0), it's easier to install the LDAP plugin on 3.0 (using the same
procedure as installing on 2.5x
