Just a side note, I performed a fresh stack install on a Cent 5.3 / ESX host (2core/2gb ram), the installer did hang at 99% for a few hours. I didn't grab any details at the time and just assumed it had hung, but after getting distracted by a few projects I came back at the end of the day to find it finished with no errors (and was running properly).
You are right Nick. With the info you gave me in that last reply I was able to dig around the zenoss archives a bit and find the reported issue to do with /etc/hosts. One of the init scripts I run on new VMs changes "127.0.0.1 localhost" in /etc/hosts to "127.0.0.1 *FQDN* *HOSTNAME*" removing localhost as a hostname entirely. Once I added a line for localhost to the file, zeo started working again, which allowed the installation to proceed. Thanks all for the assistance.
Now, on to actually playing with 3.0!
