Yep, Asterisk can save enterprises beaucoup bucks over traditional VoIP solutions from vendors like Cisco and Nortel. But, what I’m waiting for is the open source alternative to the recent partnership between Nortel and Microsoft to deliver an integrated unified communication system, combining Nortel’s SIP, routing and switching backend and client-side softphone with Microsoft’s Exchange. They lay out a road map that looks pretty cool, and also really slooooowwwwww. Couldn’t say a Vyatta and OpenExchange do the same thing for less money and MUCH faster?
