The next major release of Zenoss, code-named "Stone Crab", will run on Python 2.6.2 and Zope 2.12.1 (and have the ternary operator). One of the goals for this upgrade was to make packaging Zenoss easier for Linux and BSD distributions since the previous version of Python was getting a bit dated. Once we stabilize the new source build, we would like to reach out to the various distros and work on making our entire build process more end-user friendly, with the goal of eventually being packaged externally.
To help kick-start this process we would like to have members of the community start kicking the tires on the latest source available in Subversion. The next release is far from being ready, so what we really want to do is start testing the bulid on as many platforms as possible. If you have some free cycles next Thursday, please take the time to check out the latest trunk from Subversion and build it for your platform of choice (Linux, OS X, FreeBSD, OpenSolaris, whatever). We'll try to help trouble-shoot and open tickets to help stabilize the Zenoss source build for as many platforms as possible.
Source build instructions are covered in Chapter 6 of the . The Subversion trunk is available by
svn co http://dev.zenoss.org/svn/trunk/inst zenossinst
