This month the Zenoss Core project hit a huge milestone, one million downloads. We would like to thank everyone who has helped us not only reach this milestone, but those of you helping to ensure the future success of Zenoss.
We also have a lot of cool new things to look forward to in the upcoming weeks. The next Zenoss release, King Crab, will see its first beta release in September with new UI improvements especially the event console. We are launching a new community website with many new enhancements including a new wiki, commenting on documentation, groups, tagging, community blogs and lots of new features to make it easier to collaborate with other Zenoss users. The new portal will be live in mid-September. Also by the time this email hits your inbox or soon after we should have released Zenoss Core 2.4.5, check the Zenoss Download Page for updates and release notes.
Zenoss Community Day – Open Source and Free Training
On September 25th Zenoss will be conducting our second Zenoss Community Day. The event will be held in Columbus, OH as a precursor to the 7th Annual Ohio Linuxfest. Our first event earlier this year had over 50 attendees who received free training and the event offered a chance for Zenoss users to share their experiences.
45+ New Community ZenPacks! Now over 110 Total!
Our Summer of ZenPacks Contest finished up on August 15th and you generated over 45 new and updated numerous ZenPacks. Entries included operating system ZenPacks for AIX, Fedora Linux Solaris, OpenSuse and Ubuntu. Check out the other ZenPacks or better yet share your favorite one with the rest of the community today.
Tip of the Month: zendmd and Device Interfaces
This month’s tip is actually several techniques for zendmd scripting with interfaces. The first tip comes from Zenoss user crashdummymch in his wiki entry Find Device with MAC Address. This lets you find a specific device, given the MAC address. There’s a lot more on the subject but you’ll have to read the rest on the Zenoss blog.
Zenoss on the Road
The Zenoss team will be at a number of events this fall. In the beginning of September we will be at VMworld in San Francisco and Red Hat Summit in Chicago. Later on we will be hanging with the Zenoss community at Ohio LinuxFest where we will be putting on Zenoss Community Day II, and the Atlanta LinuxFest where we will be providing a live demo. We love to meet Zenoss users in person so stop by and introduce yourself.
Thank you for your interest and support for Zenoss.
